How I started a business with a £10 Google Advert!
In March 2005, after I had been made redundant and was kicking my heels, I decided to try a business building flat pack furniture. I had a wealth of experience in IT and an avid interest in the Internet, so after a day's work I had a website set up using Front Page; not fabulous but it'd do.
I then set up an account with Google and, ever cautious, set up a campaign to run with a monthly budget of £10. This was used up in a week! but I did secure one job which after 2 1/2 days toil earned me £500 and I was in business!
Gradually, over the next few months, I increased the budget to a princely £250 pcm. By this time, I was subcontracting work throughout the UK, taking a small percentage of the jobs I couldn't do. I was netting a profit of around £500 a month working a day or so each week, which spurred me on.
I was surprised at how easy this was to achieve and that I seemed to have hit on a business that would generate me lots of money! Not only were private individuals contacting me to build furniture for them, but businesses were too and before I knew it I had around 20 commercial customers and 50 subcontractors around the UK business was good.
Next... it doesn't matter how many visitors your site has if the website is poor.
